After being employed by Broussard Animal Hospital, Dr. Chris Duke purchased the animal hospital from Dr. Broussard’s estate after his untimely death in 1983. On the same site, Dr. Duke expanded the facility and renamed it Bienville Animal Hospital a few years later. After purchasing adjacent property to the location in 1990, the Bienville Animal Hospital was poised to expand and enlarge its configuration on Highway 90 in Ocean Springs.
Construction of the 4700 additional square feet which was added to the original 1900 square foot animal clinic was essentially a new veterinary clinic and not simply an addition. Occupancy of what was once again renamed Bienville Animal Medical Center took place in October, 1993. This newer, state of the art complex was recognized by the trade publication Veterinary Economics with a merit award in 1995.
The Bienville Animal Medical Center has continued to grow in staff and client services year to year throughout the 90’s, and has been fully accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association every step of the way. Dr. Don Palermo came on board after he sold his partnership in a successful Laurel, MS practice in 1994. Then, in June of 1998, Dr. Michael Dill and Dr. Stacey Randall, both Ocean Springs natives, returned home to join the professional staff at Bienville Animal Medical Center following their graduation from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. Dr. Felicia Burdick graduated the CVM at Mississippi State University in 2009, and brought her passion to the Bienville Animal Medical Center team, both in general and feline practice. Dr. Laura King, a MSU-CVM graduate, originally from Pensacola, FL, joined the Bienville AMC staff in the summer of 2010. Originally put into service at the Cat Care Center in 2010, Dr. Jason Lavigne, a LSU College of Veterinary Medicine 2009 graduate, dedicated himself to the Bienville AMC team in November, 2011.
