Dr. John Amann received his PhD in 1971 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1976 from Cornell University. He practiced small and large animal medicine in upstate New York and Pennsylvania for five years. In 1981, he joined the faculty at the University of Missouri, where he taught small animal anatomy and neuroanatomy.

While on sabbatical in 1996, he started training in veterinary radiology at the University of Missouri. Upon completion of his residency training in 2000, Dr. Amann stayed on there as radiology faculty. In 2001, Dr. Amann joined Pet Scan Veterinary Medical Imaging in Studio City, California, as the Medical Director.

Ever the teacher, Dr. John Amann returned to academia during the spring and summer quarters of 2003, as a visiting radiologist in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University.

In early 2004, he joined the staff of Animal Specialty Group.
